Once you have decided to get married and you set the date, there is much to be done. And remember that your friends will love to help you, so don't try and do it all yourself! And don't take on a financial burden that is going to spoil your day as you see the dollars disappearing. Decide on a sensible budget, and then make your arrangements accordingly.....

You can use this simple check list to make sure you remember most things. Save it to your hard disk, or print it to keep. Get yourself a folder with dividers to keep everything organised. Good luck.

Preliminary - As soon as possible

Set the date
Set Wedding Budget
Arrange a party to introduce the families of the bride and groom
Plan the wedding style
For a big event consider hiring a wedding coordinator
Decide on wedding official - priest, celebrant or registry office
Choose the wedding venue
Choose wedding party - groomsmen, bridesmaids, flower girls, ring bearer
Draw up a guest list
Decide on reception venue and book
Arrange to hire any extra equipment required - marquee, furniture, crockery, etc
Work out if additional venue decorations are required and who will do them
Begin shopping for wedding dress or dressmaker and accessories
Select suits and dresses for the rest of the wedding party and arrange fittings
Make sure that Mothers of the Bride and groom dress colours don't clash
Plan and book the honeymoon
Book the wedding transportation - cars, horse and carriage, limousines, etc
Select photographer and videographer
Select a florist
Book wedding and reception entertainment

4 Months Before

Order invitation cards and stationery
Choose wedding cake
Arrange passport, vaccinations etc if required
Choose your Master of Ceremonies

3 Months Before

Compile gift list and consult a gift registry if necessary
Make sure you give notice of intent to marry to wedding official at least one full      month before wedding date
Select wedding rings
Collect and write invitations
Send invitations to overseas guests

8 to 6 Weeks Before

Confirm reception and hiring arrangements
Confirm arrangements with florist
Make wedding day appointments - hairdresser, beautician
Confirm honeymoon details
Plan honeymoon clothes
Mail your invitations
Maintain a record of acceptances and declines
Plan hen's and buck's nights
Select gifts for attendants
Organise someone to mind your pet

4 Weeks Before

Arrange wedding insurance for gifts and holiday insurance
Confirm arrangements with wedding official
Have a hair and beauty rehearsal
Arrange wedding rehearsal
Final wedding dress fitting and alterations if necessary
Finalise arrangements with photographer, entertainers etc
Finalise attendants outfits
Keep your guest list updated and write thank you notes as gifts are received
Arrange printing of order of service and wedding banquet program
Complete critical information form and give to key people

2 Weeks Before

Final fitting of all wedding attire and arrange delivery
Make sure the wedding party is fully aware of what is required of each person
Finalise guest numbers and confirm with caterers
Arrange wedding reception seating
Type an alphabetical list of guests and table allocations with place cards,      bonboniere etc and give to your reception venue

1 Week Before

Confirm all arrangements - catering, floral, photography, entertainers, transport
Have wedding rehearsal
Make sure ushers know where to seat special guests on the day
Final fitting check of all outfits and accessories
Ensure that all guests (especially interstate and overseas) have transport to and     from the wedding venue and reception
Pack an emergency kit for the day
Pack for the honeymoon
Layout all clothes for the wedding day
Give gifts to attendants
Organise the payment of church fees etc
